Lealholm, North Yorkshire, England
A reclaimed game larder from the late 1800s, originally part of Sir Francis Ley's shooting estate and built by Boulton and Paul, now restored as a small chalet on a traditional hill farm in the Esk Valley. The cedar wood structure sits with views directly toward Danby Beacon, and the hot tub on the outside decking faces the valley's sunsets. The provenance is real: this is a piece of Victorian sporting estate architecture given a second life.
The shared toilet and shower block 20 metres away and the neighbouring campsite keep expectations grounded. This is a farm stay with history, not a luxury lodge. A wood burning stove, a loft bed, and a projector that displays onto the cabin roof for evening viewing complete a setup that leans into character over polish. Farm raised rare breed meat is available from an on site vending machine.
We love the history. A genuine 1890s game larder, built by Boulton and Paul, now watching sunsets over the Esk Valley with a hot tub on the deck. That story is worth the stay.
Reviewers praised the stay's beautiful location, easy-to-use hot tub with Aidan's guidance, convenient amenities, and stunning sunset views from the hot tub, with no negative feedback about the place or host.
