Standish, Manchester, England
Sans Souci is a bespoke shepherd's hut completed in 2021, set on the edge of the Cotswolds near Standish with south facing views across the hills from its deck. The hut is handcrafted rather than factory produced, with a log burning stove, well equipped kitchen, shower room with compost toilet, and a double bed alongside a double sofa bed. A fire pit in the garden provides an outdoor cooking and gathering point.
The Cotswold Way is a short walk from the door, making this a practical base for hiking the trail without needing to carry camping gear. Stonehouse is five minutes by car for supplies, and Stroud, with its well regarded artisan farmers market, is 15 minutes away. The hut is compact, and the double bed may not suit those over six feet, which is worth noting. But for a Cotswold stay that trades manicured village aesthetics for actual countryside walking access, it fills an underserved gap.
We love the direct walking access to the Cotswold Way. Being able to step out of a well built hut and onto a national trail is the kind of simplicity that makes a stay work.
Guests loved their stay at Sans Souci, often wishing for a longer visit. Reviews praise the fantastic included breakfast options, especially the fresh berries. Many thanked Alison for the outstanding experience.
